Summer Reading

For the last couple of months area kids have read their way through summer vacation.

Nearly 3,000 young people have registered for the Muskingum County Library System's summer reading program, "Fizz, Boom, Read." The library system is still short of their  goal of over 100,000 books read. So, in this last week, they encourage kids to meet their individual goals.

"It's such an important partnership with area educators, families and businesses to make sure we play a part in that development and appreciation for an essential life skill which is literacy," said Assistant Director Blair Tom.

Throughout the summer the library has held interactive features and programs to go along with their science theme. Tom said these were all well attended and fit well with the library's goal.

"Reading  is an important part of our mission," said Tom. "But, also so is that discovered and create and the programs really focus more on discover and create."

This is the last week you can register for summer reading and the last week that you can report the number of books read. You can do so by visiting any Muskingum County Library Branch.
