Licking County is reporting its first signs of  West Nile virus in mosquitoes.

The Licking County Health Department reports that one pool of mosquitoes collected from traps on Valley Boulevard in the Village of Hanover has tested positive for West Nile virus.

Health Department Officials will be spraying the area Monday in addition to their regularly scheduled mosquito spraying.

Licking County Health Commissioner Joe Ebel says the wet spring and summer have allowed mosquito populations to rise county wide.

He says residents should take steps to protect themselves against mosquito bites and eliminate standing water to reduce their chances of being infected by West Nile virus.
