Muskingum County will soon have a new candidate for county commissioner.

Once the proper paperwork is filed later this week, Linda Regula is slated to replace Grant Hutcheson as the Democratic nominee to face off against incumbent Republican Jim Porter this fall.

"The candidate that was in the primary dropped out, and the nominating committee asked if I would run," Regula said. "I took about two weeks to think it over, and I got out in the county and drove around and talked to people...I thought maybe I could do something different, and maybe I could help some people."

A prominent artist in the community, Regula helped start the Y-Bridge Arts Festival six years ago. She is also planning the event again this year which will take place at Zane's Landing Park this weekend.  While she admits she doesn't have much in the way of prior political experience, there are still several issues Regula hopes to address if elected.

"We need repairs on our roads, sewage," she said. "We need high speed internet in some of the townships that don't even have that.  So I'm just kind of exploring all the issues.  I'm asking people, if you have an issue that is important to you and your family in your community, in your township, contact me.  I'll see if I can do anything."

Regula said the best way to reach out to her is through her facebook fan page, "Linda Regula for County Commissioner."
