Back to school can be an exciting time for many children and their families...but it can also be very expensive.
The Salvation Army is stepping up to help with back to school clothes again this year. They're hosting a school clothing giveaway at their location on Putnam Avenue. They served over 120 families at the event last year, and they're prepared to serve even more this time around.
"It's all the donations that's come in throughout the year, the clothing donations," said George Bates with the Salvation Army. "We want to make sure that all the area children, they have some clothes to wear back to school."
The first day of the giveaway was Wednesday, but you still have a chance to pick up clothes for your child Thursday from 9:00 a.m. until noon. If you can't make it out at that time, Bates said there are still plenty of other opportunities to get the clothes your family might need.
"We have a clothing room, clothing bank.," Bates said. "We're open Wednesday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. And that's what it's for. It's for the community people. They can come in and get a free bag of clothes once a month. Like I said, we don't want to see anyone running around in need."
If you plan to stop by to pick up clothes Thursday, Bates said you will need your ID as well as the social security number for everyone in your household. The event is available to anyone.
