The United Way set up shop at the Wal-Mart in South Zanesville Sunday with the goal of finding some generous shoppers to pick up a few items for 7th and 8th graders in Morgan County.
"Yesterday and today, United Way partnered with Wal-Mart, and it's a project where we're able to 'Fill the Bus' and collect school supplies for kids," said Resource Development Director Audrey Foster. "We took on a project for Morgan County since the United Way covers Muskingum, Perry, and Morgan counties."
Volunteers were there from 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. both days. They passed out fliers to shoppers as they entered the store with the supply lists for the students. The shoppers then dropped off their purchases as they left. From tissues to index cards and markers to notebooks, Foster said she is happy with the support received from the community.
"It's really been fun. People have been very cooperative and have been dropping off their supplies as they're leaving, so it's been a good time."
Foster said this is the first year they've done a program like this. The supplies will be distributed later at the school.
