A flag created for Muskingum County by residents from Muskingum County is returning to the site where it was designed.

Residents from the Muskingum County Home created the flag several years ago.  It was once flown at the Ohio Statehouse with the flags from Ohio's other 87 counties.  On Monday, former superintendent of the county home, Rebecca Cooper, went to the Muskingum County Commissioners with a request.

"Frame a flag to be presented to Zane State College, the science hall where the former county home sat, in tribute and remembrance of those residents who designed the flag," Cooper said.

The commissioners said they plan to have their maintenance department take care of the framing.  They also accepted Cooper's invitation to take part in the presentation of the flag.  Roger Penos did the artwork for the flag which includes many significant items from the county's history.

"It had the Underground Railroad, it had the Lorena, it had pottery, coal.  At one time we were a large industry of coal," Cooper said.

The flag also contains an image of the Y-Bridge, the Wilds, as well as a barn to represent agriculture.  No official word yet on when the presentation to the college will take place.
