The 2nd annual Party In The Park and Latch On event will be held Saturday.
The event will run from 10AM to noon at the Dillon Dam Pavilion near the playground. Mom's to be and breast feeding mothers and their babies are welcome to come to the park for a morning of socializing and education. Lisa Davidson, a Lactation Consultant for Women Infants and Children (WIC) said those who come will have a variety of things to enjoy.
"It's just kind of nice to have all the moms together. At 10:30 we'll have an official latch on. Theres a national event that happened last week but we're doing it this week. It's just kind of nice to have everybody breast feeding at the same time. It's nice for moms to talk with other moms."
A professional photographer will be present to take pictures of mothers and their children. Light refreshments and door prizes will also be available. August is National Breastfeeding Awareness Month, so davison says the event is being held in order to make people aware of the many benefits of nursing.
"I would say, you know, the health benefits. And I hate to use the word benefits because really when we talk about breastfeeding, thats whats natural and normal. If we dont, there may be some risks and disadvantages. I hate to say that there are benefits to it, but I would say that the nutritional value alone, the immunological properties of breast milk. The bonding that happens."
WIC will also be at the Muskingum County Fair, and will provide breastfeeding mothers with rocking chairs and a quiet booth to nurse in.
