The "Party-in-the-Park and Latch-On" event was held this afternoon in honor of National Breastfeeding Awareness Month.
The event held in the Dillon Dam Pavilion hosted more than 30 moms who all had one thing in common, their support for breastfeeing. Lisa Davidson, Lactation Specialist for the Zanesville-Muskingum County Health Department says this event has one simple goal.
"bringing awareness to breast feeing as what it is, natural and normal, bringing moms together so that can support each other. "
Locally, events like the "Party-in-the-Park and Latch-On" event are important, but moms are getting involved on a national level as well. The United States Breastfeeing Committee has created a social media campaign with #sixwords, where moms use short sentences to explain what breastfeeding means to them. Some mom's at the event shared their #sixwords.
"Breast is best for my daughter ," said mom Winlan Mills and mom Rachel Kanski used the words, "Hard at first, but worth it."
The event lasted from 10 a-m to noon with an official "Latch-On" at 10:30.
