Muskingum County Fair

The 168th Muskingum County Blue Ribbon Fair opened Sunday afternoon with a parade and ribbon cutting ceremony.

Although the fair started before the Civil War, it is still a place where memories are made for members of the community. 4-year-old Kolvin Riggle was in for a happy surprise after he was asked to help pull names for the bike raffle. He ended up speeding away on a brand new bike! Mallory Spring was shocked to find out that she won this years title of Muskingum County Junior Fair Queen.

"I'm incredibly excited to get to represent the Junior Fair, the 4-H, FFA. It's a wonderful fair and I couldn't be happier. "

Helping create memories isn't an easy task. 5,000 people are needed to open the Muskingum County Fair up each year, and this year is no different. From pie bakers, exhibitors, 4-H and FFA members, every person is essential to the success of the fair. President of the Board, Darrel Cubbison says it takes vision to open a fair this size, and he told us about his.

"You got to have a lot of vision for what people like, or want. And then the young people... We have to have rides, and they have exhibits, they bring their animals, they bring their clothing projects, they bring their cooking projects and all kinds of projects. A lot more than when I was a kid"

The fair runs from Sunday August 10 till Saturday August 16. General admission tickets will run you $9. And take some advice from Cubbison...

"Have a great time at the 168th blue ribbon fair!"
