The Muskingum County Board of Elections said they're looking for candidates for a vacated judge position.

This week Governor John Kasich appointed Judge Eric Martin to serve as Probate and Juvenile Judge, replacing Judge Joseph Gormley, who retired from the bench.

Now, the Board of Elections said Martin's former role as Muskingum County Court Judge will be on the ballot this November.

"Petitions may be picked up at the Board of Elections Office if you're interested in being a candidate," said Board of Elections Director Chris Hamill. "Petitions must be filed back in our office by September 2 by 4p.m.

Once petitions are returned the Board of Elections takes steps to make sure everything is verified.

"They'll bring the petitions in and we will verify the signatures, make sure they have enough valid signatures," explained Hamill. "They are required to have 50 valid signatures and once that is done and everything's okay with the petitions the board will certify that the candidate will be placed on the ballot."

The person elected to this seat will be serving out an unexpired term which ends in December 2018. Those wanting to register to vote in November must do so by October 6.
