Members of MISTRAS Group and the Heath-Newark-Licking County Port Authority ceremoniously broke ground Monday morning at the Central Ohio Aerospace and Technology Center.
MISTRAS Group does non-destructive testing of metals and composites for the aerospace, automobile and oil refinery industries. The new project hopefully will be complete next year. According to the Heath-Newark-Licking County Port Authority President Rick Platt, the new construction and lease is a sign of economic improvement.
"Well, really this is opportunity, meets preparedness. You know, for years, even through a tough economy we've been preparing this site for development and now we're seeing it today with a 15-year lease announced that the Port Authority will be building this building and leasing it back to MISTRAS Group."
The ground breaking ceremony Monday began at 10:30a.m and even ended early. Platt said that he hopes the fluidity of how well Mondays event went is a good sign for the project.
"We're building a 60,000 sqare foot building, 5.2 million dollar investment in the community by the company, retaining 130 jobs and create some more."
MISTRAS Group is upgrading from its current location on Kaiser Dr. to the new space which will include a state-of-the-art laboratory and heavy cranes. It will be located at the intersection of James Parkway and Kaiser Dr in Heath.
