Typically after a big football game the coach gets drenched with Gatorade.
But Friday just hours before the big game, members of the administrative staff at Zanesville High school, including Coach Grandstaff, were drenched with ice water for the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge. In turn nominating their rivals, Newark High School, who they play Friday night at 7:30.
"Just the fact that we've been playing over 100 years, it's a big rivalry game. And they are excited in Newark to play the Blue Devils and the Blue Devils are excited to go there. So it should be a great atmosphere tonight."
Coach Grandstaff was nominated for the challenge by a former student, and so was Principal Garry Young. Young thought that the Ice Bucket Challenge would be a good way to get amped for the game tonight, donate some money as well as give credit to students for a great first week through their positive incentives program. The students chosen had the honor of dumping the freezing cold water on their favorite teachers heads.
"We had 50 something kids nominated for this, and we got to pick nine kids to do the challenge with us. I thought it was a really cool way to start out."
The students at Zanesville High School as well as the staff will still be collecting money through out next week and plan on announcing their final donation.
