A big donation this afternoon for The Muskingum Valley Tobacco Prevention Foundation.

State Senator Joy Padgett presented the foundation with a check worth almost $300,000 for continued funding of local tobacco control programs. The 14-month extension will continue to fund programs in Muskingum, Coshocton and Morgan Counties.

A county project estimated at over $30 million is facing some major funding problems, leaving the Muskingum County Transportation Improvement District with some financial planning.

In a meeting with Ohio Department of Transportation officials and the Muskingum County Commissioners today, the District discussed plans for the State Route 93/22 connector road project.

Today wraps up the first of two food drives put on by the Adult Probation Office here in Zanesville.

Judge Fleegle says the probationers donated canned or dry goods to these drives, so they can lessen their probation time.

“Each year we have two drives for the probationers who have community service hours they owe, they can get credit up to 10 hours, by bringing in up to 10 canned goods or dry goods that we then donate to the Salvation Army and to Christ’s Table.”

The Salvation Army kicks off their Red Kettle Campaign today and you can find their kettles throughout the city of Zanesville.

The Salvation Army is out trying to raise funds to buy toys and food that they will give away in Christmas baskets for the community. The Salvation Army’s Captain Ralph Campbell says he hopes the community will reach out and help them by giving this year.

Ohio University Zanesville received a special visit today, as they revealed the progress of a new addition to Elson Hall.

Ohio University President, Roderick J McDavis traveled to Zanesville to be part of an open house, of what he says is an exciting addition to the campus.

Residents and businesses along US 40, West of Zanesville can look forward to an improved sewer system within the next few years.

Area pharmacists are starting to see the affects of the new Medicare Prescription Drug Plan for seniors.

The program started yesterday and seniors have been calling pharmacists with several questions. “Seniors are concerned about where to sign up, how to sign up, and whether or not it’s going to increase their out of pocket cost,” said owner of Shrivers Pharmacy John Coler.

Gift baskets are always a popular holiday item and there will be lots to choose from at the Muskingum Valley Academy Gift Basket Auction.

Santa will be visiting Zanesville when he comes to the Colony Square Mall on Saturday for the Third Annual Holiday Parade.

“We’re going to circle the mall and then bring him into the Santa set here where he can greet the children and they can have their pictures taken with him,” said Colony Square Mall Marketing Director Kevin Pinson.

One of the co-defendants in an armed robbery that occurred at the Duke and Duchess on the Maysville Pike two weeks ago, was arraigned in court Wednesday.

According to Muskingum County Court Documents, 18-year-old Adam James of Zanesville entered a plea of not guilty to one count of aggravated robbery with a gun specification and one count of theft.
