The Frazeysburg fire department is investigating an early afternoon fire today.

The fire was in the garage of a home located at 1110 Cannon Road in Frazeysburg.

When officials arrived at the scene the roof of the building had already collapsed damaging the one vehicle that remained inside.

No one was injured in the fire. it is suspected the cause stemmed from an electrical fire coming from a generator in the garage that was running since early morning.

The race for Miss Ohio is underway this week in Mansfield.

One of our own Whiz reporters is a contestant.

Bryn Hough is vying for the statewide crown. Wednesday night Bryn won the talent portion of the pageant by singing opera.

She was one of three contestants who sang as part of the competition.

Tonight Bryn will taker part in the swimsuit contest of the pageant.

The finals are set for Saturday night.

Genesis Health Care Systems says it's passed a major test when it comes to the care of its patients.

The medical facility was recently evaluated by the joint commissions who evaluate how the hospital takes care of its patients.

The evaluators pick a number of patients in the hospital and track them to every ward they were sent through making sure standards were met in each department.

But soon it will get tougher to gain the accreditation.

If you plan on being on the road Friday night make sure you keep an extra careful eye on the road.

Beginning Friday night at 10 p.m. the Muskingum County Sheriff's office in conjunction with the State Highway Patrol will set up a checkpoint right here in Muskingum County. It will be located on State Route 60 between Zanesville and Duncan Falls.

The checkpoint is intended to let residents know that drinking and driving will not be tolerated.

If you are planning on partying this weekend get ready for a sobriety checkpoint.

The Zanesville Highway Patrol and the Muskingum County Sheriff’s Office will be setting up the checkpoint Friday night between 10:00 p.m. and 3:00 a.m.

Lieutenant Barry Donley says officers will be conducting a roadside check of drivers for alcohol and drug impairment.

The exact location of the sobriety checkpoint is expected to be released sometime on Friday.

We have an update on a story brought to you last week regarding a school rallying to survive.

After three weeks of urging the community to donate funds to the Ridgewood School District, parents, teachers, and concerned citizens were expecting the worse; that Fresno Elementary would have to close.

But Miracles do happen and one took place tonight in West Lafayette when school board officials announced that Fresno Elementary would keep its doors open for another school year...

The state of Ohio continues to improve efforts to promote healthy habits.

This year a number of local schools were recognized for their achievements.

For the 3rd year in a row the Ohio department of health has awarded schools for making nutrition a priority and as a result more and more schools are being honored.

The Buckeye best award is given to schools that follow strict health guidelines.

The Zanesville Highway Patrol is investigating an early morning fatal accident.

It happened on U.S. 22 at the intersection of Thompson Run Road just before 6:30.

Troopers says 19-year-old
Dewey Lester was Township Road 57 in Roseville was killed in the wreck.

Investigators say Lester was driving east on 22, went left of center and struck a westbound car head-on.

That car was driven by 22-year-old Joshua Luman of Roseville.

The 2005 United Way allocation process was recently approved by the board of directors, and the agencies were notified of their monies for this year.

Elaine Curry, County Coordinator for the United Way describes the allocation process.

“The allocation process is the heart and soul of the united way. It is staffed this year by 33 volunteers that come in and review the agencies, there’s four panels and they reviewed 17 agencies,” says Curry.
