Pearl J. “Junior” Pontious 78 of Crooksville passed away on Tuesday November 10, 2009 in New Lexington.

Junior was born on April 1, 1931 in Chillicothe to the late Pearl and Ocye Seymour Pontious. Junior was a lifelong resident of Crooksville and was a very hard worker, he retired from the Operating Engineers Union after 50 years of service. He was well known as one of the best backhoe operators around. When Junior was not working he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and most of all shopping.

Junior is survived by his wife Geraldine “Gerry” Browning Pontious of the home, four sons Robert (Renae) Pontious of Wilmington, NC, Bryan (Alice) Pontious of Crooksville, Mark (Kim Laubach) Pontious of Seminole, FL, and Dan Pontious of Crooksville, a daughter Debbie (Mike) Casto of Pataskala, two brothers Louis (Pat) Pontious of Portsmouth and Don (Bonnie) Pontious of Tallahassee, FL, Nine grandchildren Sean Pontious, Michelle Pontious, David Pontious, Adam Pontious, Kaitlin Pontious, Jason Pontious, Seth Casto, Skye Casto, and Brandon Casto and a great grandson Roman Pontious.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two sisters Mary Ellen Browning and Evelyn Marie Browning.

Calling hours will be 2-4 and 6-8 pm on Thursday November 12 at THE CROOKSVILLE CHAPEL OF THE SNOUFFER FUNERAL HOME 207 BURLEY STREET CROOKSVILLE. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Friday at 11am with Rev. Carolyn Hoskinson officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery.
