Mary Catherine Rockwell, 85 of Zanesville, went to heaven on Dec. 2, 2009 at 1:45 p.m. surrounded by her loving family at home. Mary was born April 26, 1924 in Brooklyn, New York. She was the youngest of 6 children.
Mary is survived by a son and five daughters, William (Karen) Rockwell of Tennessee, Barbara (Butch) Sexton of New Philadelphia, Dolly (David) Gregorich, Mary (Butch) Grandstaff, Irma (Jack) Smith and Linda (Monk) Smith all of Zanesville, her former husband William (Edith) Rockwell of Taylor, Michigan. She was the greatest of Grandmas to 15 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild.
Mary loved to be with her grandchildren especially when they were little. She sang with them, played with them and just loved to watch them play. She helped her grandchildren learn to talk and some of them were learning words with a Brooklyn accent, that she still had until 1 ½ years ago when Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s and Dementia took most of her speech away. But she still knew her family even though sometimes they had to tell her their names, then she would remember.
Mary was at Willow Haven Care Center for 23 months, when her family could no longer take care of her, where she had so many workers that took care of her and grew to love her because if you knew her you had to love her. She was just that kind of person. Mary attended St. Thomas Aquinas Church.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers and 2 grandsons: Troy Maxwell and Michael Rockwell.
