Wilda Marie Fleece, 75, of Zanesville, passed away at 11:05 AM Wednesday August 25, 2010 at her residence.
She was born February 1, 1935 in Zanesville the daughter of the late Alexander I. Scanlan and Mabel I. Bay Scanlan. A lifelong resident of Muskingum County, Wilda worked for United Technologies for 10 years but her true occupation was her family. She dearly loved and cared for her husband, her boys and in later life her grandchildren. Wilda battled and beat three different forms of cancer throughout her life, each time being declared cancer free. She finally succumbed to the disease the fourth time, her family physician referring to her as one tough lady.
Wilda is survived by sons: John (Christy) Fleece, Virgil Fleece, Roger Fleece and Kevin Fleece all of Zanesville, sisters: Sharon Reed of Nashport and Theresa Scanlan of Zanesville, brothers: John Scanlan of Vail, AZ and Patrick Skinner of Dover, Del, grandchildren: John Fleece, Ashley Fleece, David Fleece, Jennifer Lowry, Kimberly Davidson and Kristie Henderson, 14 great grandchildren and a very close and care giving friend Chris Wicker.
Preceding Wilda in death were her parents, husband of 54 years Virgil Fleece who died 3/6/2008, her first born son who died at birth, John Virgil Fleece and son: David Fleece, sister: Mary Stewart and brothers: Clarence Scanlan and Richard Mc Mullen.
Visitation for Wilda will be 5:00 – 8:00 PM today Friday August 27, 2010 at Bryan & Snider Funeral Home 2318 Maple Ave where funeral services will be at 11:00 AM Saturday August 28, 2010. Rev. Tim Patton will officiate with committal service to follow at St. Paul Cemetery.
