HILLIS & HARDWICK FUNERAL HOME OBIT:
Billy Max Smith, 78, of Zanesville , OH died 11:20 AM Sunday, December 12, 2010 at Genesis Morrison House Hospice, Zanesville, following a short illness.
He was born August 11, 1932 in Zanesville the son of Lyle and Florence (Hambel) Smith.
Billy is survived by his wife of the home Carol A. (Cooper) Smith whom he married January 11, 1982 ; 2 sons: Mike (Melanie) Smith of Zanesville and Mark (Vicki) Smith of Ocala, FL; 5 step-children: Stephen (Kay) Wartenbe, Christina Hall, Robert Wartenbe, Kelly (Bill) Quinn and Karen Hessler; 4 grandchildren: Jennifer and Heather Smith and Eli and Evan Smith; A great-granddaughter, Emma Smith; 10 step-grandchildren Chase and Joe Wartenbe, Jodi Wisecarver, Cara Nelson, Zachary Hall, Natalie Ludwig, Kacy Richmond, Mickey Wagner, Haley and Holden Hessler and 8 step-great-grandchildren and a beloved sister Doris Powell of Florida.
He was preceded in death in addition to his parents, by 3 sisters Esther Sims, Bernice Brink and Elma Wells and a brother Gene Smith.
He served in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He was a home builder for many years and operated the local Unibilt Home Dealership until he retired in 1995. After retirement he and his wife enjoyed many years wintering on the Gulf Coast of Florida. Billy was a member of the VFW, American Legion and the Moose Lodge.
Billy was a regular with the "Breakfast Bunch" at Tee Jays Restaurant and the "Afternoon Bunch" at the Colony Square Mall and with his OUZ Tennis buddies. He was a friendly and outgoing person who will be sadly missed by his family and many friends.
Friends may call 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, December 14, 2010 at the Hillis & Hardwick Funeral Home, 935 Forest Avenue where funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, December 15, 2010 with Pastor Roger Decker officiating. Burial with military honors conduct by the local VFW and the United States Air Force will conclude in Mt. Olive Cemetery, Zanesville.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Local Chapter of the American Cancer Society, Genesis Morrison House Hospice or to the charity of donors choice.
