HILLIS & HARDWICK OBIT:
T. Marlene Greten, 78 of Zanesville, died 2:57 AM Monday, March 14, 2011 at Genesis Morrison House Hospice following a short illness. She was born Sunday, November 13, 1932 in Zanesville, the daughter of Paul Joseph Greten and V. Ruth(Monkhouse) Greten and was a member of St. Nicholas Catholic Church.
Marlene was a graduate of The Good Samaritan School of Nursing and served as an ER Nurse for many years. She retired as a Hospice Nurse following 40 years of service to Good Samaritan Medical Center. She served on the Red Cross Board for 10 years and was a volunteer for the Red Cross for over 60 years, taking a very active roll on many committees and activities. Marlene was a member of the Falls Township Volunteer Fire Department and the Ladies Auxiliary as a Fire Maid. She was the first female paramedic in Muskingum County. Marlene served as Nurse for many years at the Muskingum County Jail. She served as the County Fair Nurse for over 50 years. Marlene had a special place in her heart for animals, especially cats and was active with the Muskingum Animal Shelter Society.
Marlene is survived by one sister: M. Suzanne ''Susie'' Greten of Zanesville; one brother: P. Richard Greten of Marietta
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Friends may call Wednesday, March 16, 2011 from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at The Hillis & Hardwick Funeral Home, 935 Forest Avenue where a Christian Vigil will be held at 4:00 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:30 AM, Thursday at St. Nicholas Catholic Church with Fr. Martin Ralko as Celebrant. Burial will follow in Mt. Olive Cemetery.
