Oliver Wendell Barnett, 93, of Zanesville went to be with the Lord at 3:35 AM, Friday, January 4, 2013, at the Adams Lane Care Center following a four year illness.
Mr. Barnett was born April 12, 1919, in Fleming, Ohio the son of Emmett and Mabel (Kennedy) Barnett. He was a retired supervisor of the Engineering Department of McGraw Edison. He Attended Bethel Wesleyan Church in Amesville, Ohio. He was a member of the Duncan Falls-Philo Lions Club for more than 40 years, where he received the Melvin Jones Fellow Award, the highest honor presented by Lions International; he also achieved lifetime status in 2009. Additionally, Mr. Barnett was a past member of the Red Cross Board of Directors and Chairperson of the Disaster Service Committee.
Wendell is survived by his daughter: Dr. Linda Hunt of Zanesville, Son: Stephen (Carol) Barnett of Woodland, California; Granddaughters: Michelle (Shaun) Jordan of Zanesville and Nina Barnett of Woodland, California, Great-Granddaughters: Aleea Naomi Jordan of Zanesville and Ashley Jordan of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Great-Grandson: Shaun (Tiana) Jordan Jr. of Jacksonville, Arkansas. Great-Great Grandson Shaun Jordan III of Jacksonville, Arkansas. He was the guardian of his Nephews Arthur Tate, Jr., Joseph Tate, and Timothy Tate and Niece Carole Tate Begala; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
In addition to his parents, Wendell is preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Naomi Croston Barnett, who passed away in 2007 and a sister and brother-in-law Maxine and Arthur Willis Tate Sr.
Friends may call Monday, January 7, 2013, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8pm with a Lions Service at 7:30 PM, at the BRYAN & SNIDER FUNERAL HOME, 2318 Maple Ave. and also from 10:30 AM until the time of service at 11AM at the Bethel Wesleyan Church in Amesville, Ohio, on Tuesday January 8, 2013, Rev. Terry F. Newman will officiate; assisted by Rev. Stephen Hale and Rev. Eugene Ramsey. Interment will follow at the Mt. Herman Cemetery in Sharpsburg, Ohio.
