Fredric Eugene ”Gene” Sharrer, 78, of South Zanesville passed away Sunday, March 23, 2014 at Genesis Good Samaritan Medical Center in Zanesville.
Gene was born July 29, 1935 in Zanesville to the late Fred and Ruby Sharrer. He retired after 47 years from Industrial Crate and Lumber Company in South Zanesville. He was a member of the Ohio Country and Western Music Association where he held several offices over 27 years. He was inducted into the Muskingum County Country Music Hall of Fame along with his wife, Linda, in 2000 and was a past president.
Gene and Linda performed at the Country Music Barn in Adamsville once a month for 10 years. He was an avid bowler and was a past Fire Chief for the Perry Township Volunteer Fire Dept. He loved antique cars and has a 1950 Chevy which won several trophies and he enjoyed collecting model cars. He loved his slots at the Treasure Cove. He also was a member of the Afternoon Coffee Club at McDonalds on Maysville Pike.
Gene was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He is survived by his wife Linda, daughter, Marcella (Ross) Mehrmann of Granville; son, Tom Sharrer of Malta; very special sister-in-law, Gloria Puchovich; step-daughter, Vanessa (Dan) Denney of Columbus; step-son, Harold Pack of Columbus; 7 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and cousins, ex-daughter-in-law, Teri Sharrer and several country music friends, his in-laws, Steve Papp of Columbus, Rusty and Reene Papp of Columbus, Vickie and Jeff Stone of Columbus and his brother-in-law, Carl Price.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Ruby Sharrer; sisters, Dorothy (Bill) King, Sparky Hughes and Gloria Price and mother and father-in-law Jeanette and Frank Papp. Gene and Linda shared a special life together for 30 years.

A memorial gathering will be held from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, March 29, 2014 at THE SNOUFFER FUNERAL HOME 1150 W. MILITARY RD. ZANESVILLE.
A celebration of Life Party will be held at the Senior Center West Main Street Zanesville on Sunday April 6, 2014 from 1-3pm. A potluck dinner will be enjoyed by all who attend. All of his musician friends are expected to be there to entertain.
