This was the final weekend in the regular season for High School football. What a weekend it was with New Lexington clinching not only a M-V-L title but it's first state playoff birth since 1990 with an overtime win verse Sheridan. Crooksville also played for a chance to reach the post season after going 0-10 last year.
Well, the points were tallied on Sunday and the seeds were set so here's a look at the local teams taht made the cut.
In Division Three John Glenn gets to stay at home to host a seven and three Hebron Lakewood team. And, it looks like that loss to New Lex cost Sheridan home field advantage in the first round as they have to travel to Canal Fulton North West. Both of those games are this Friday night at 7:30.
Saturday night in Division Four is going to be a busy evening, as New Lexington plays Portsmouth at home for the Panthers first playoff birth since 1990. Licking Valley plays host to first year head coach Marty Argenbright and his Coshocton Redskins. Those games are at 7:00 on Saturday Night.
Two teams from Division Five get to play another game this Friday night at 7:30. Barnesville packes it's bags to head to Shenandoah for a first round match-up. Then a team that went winless in 2000 comes back to states with Crooksville playing the Chesapeake Panthers.
Only one other school in our coverage area made the playoffs and it happens to be the second school from Newark. The Green Wave of Newark Catholic is the number one seed for region 23 in Division Six. They will host Wellsville on Saturday at 7:00.
