Players from Meadowbrook High School's Football team have told W-H-I-Z that a group of 10-12 players, mostly upperclassmen, were told by Head Coach Steve Warden to turn in their gear on Tuesday afternoon. The players say they were at WR Jake Graham's house after school instead of going to practice, when Warden came to the house and kicked them off the team.
The players say they were drafting a list of suggestions of how to make football at Meadowbrook more "fun". Warden refused to comment saying only, "If that's the story you're going with, fine."
Athletic Director Kelly Rine told W-H-I-Z he believes all matters like this are internal and should be kept that way. He also says, "Every player had a choice after school that day. Some made the right choice and some didn't." Rine also says Warden is "our football coach and we couldn't be more proud of him."
The Colts are 0-4 this season, following a 62-14 loss to Coshocton this past Friday night.
