Cleveland won its home debut against the defending champion LA Lakers 89-70. Zydrunas Ilgauskas paced the Cavs with 23 points, dominating a post vacated by injured LA center Shaquille O'Neal. Rickey Davis scored 24 points for Cleveland, which held the Lakers to their lowest point total since the franchise moved from Milwaukee in 1960.
