Jordan Lear realizes how rare his situation will be at Cincinnati.
And not simply because he's tall.
"Coach Minter said he's the first punter he's had that can look down on offensive lineman," said James Lear, Jordan's father.
The 6-7 Lear signed a letter of intent to play football with the University of Cincinnati Wednesday. Lear has indicated that Beatcats coaches believe he can see the field in his freshman season.
"They told me I have a good chance to play next year. It's just a very fortunate situation for me," Lear said.
Lear averaged 40.8 yards a punt last season. Lear said he chose UC because he likes their zoology program.
"I've always liked animals and feel that's something I can be happy doing the rest of my life," Lear said.
"He used to stay at his grandmother's and who knows what he'd come home with....frogs and whatever," said Lear's father.
