Long shot Ben Curtis (500-1 odds) won his first Major Championship, beating some of golf's best in the process. Curtis shot a 69 Sunday to finish the 132nd British Open as the only player in red figures. The Columbus, Ohio native's 1-under par total was one stroke better than Thomas Bjorn and Vijay Singh, two ahead of Tiger Woods and Davis Love III. Curtis was playing in his first major championship. The PGA Tour rookie is believed to be the first player to win a major in his debut since 1913. Curtis won 1.13 million dollars, more than five times his career PGA earnings of 200,000 dollars.
