After serving as a backup most of his career, BJ Sander finally finished a leg up.
The Ohio State punter won the Ray Guy Award, annually given to college football's best punter, on Thursday.
Sander, a fifth-year senior from Cincinnati, averaged 43.6 yards a punt this season. Also, 48% of his kicks went inside an opposing team's 20 yard line.
Sander punted a little his redshirt freshman season, but then sat for two years behind All-American Andy Groom.
"It's been a learning experience," Sander said.
