You don't need Dr. Jim Burson and his 518 career wins to tell you this one.
Shoot well and you'll probably win.
Muskingum did just that Thursday night, defeating Muhlenberg 71-43 in the first round of the Muskies annual Holiday Classic.
Muskingum made 11 three-pointers and shot 61 percent from behind the arc.
Jeff Smallwood poured in 14 points for Muskingum, shooting 4-5 from three-point range. Cole Pittis led the Muskies with 16 points as 11 Muskingum players scored.
But the Muskies won the game with their staple this season: defense. Muskingum held the Mules to 27 percent shooting in the game and never trailed. The Muskies lead the OAC in scoring defense, only surrendering 55 points a game in league play.
Muskingum (5-3) next plays Taylor University Saturday at 2:00 pm in the Holiday Classic.
