Shane Montgomery, NC class of '85, helped lead Miami (OH) past Louisville 49-28 in the GMAC bowl in Mobile, AL.
Montgomery is the team's offensive coordinator.
Ben Roethlisberger threw for 376 yards and four touchdowns for Miami. After the game, the junior quarterback declared his intentions to enter the NFL draft.
Montgomery's offense totaled 597 yards for Miami, which played in its first bowl game since 1986. Martin Nance caught nine passes for 168 yards and one touchdown.
Montgomery won two bowl games, MVP of both, while he played quarterback at North Carolina State in the late '80s.
The third-year Miami coach is also a finalist for the Broyles Award, annually given to the nation's top coordinator.
