The Muskies realized the opportunity presented to them Wednesday night.

Problem was they got too excited.

Muskingum never recovered from a disastrous first half, losing to nationally ranked John Carroll 75-64 Wednesday.

The Muskies had more turnovers (17) than field goal attempts (16) in the first half against an aggressive Blue Streaks' press. John Carroll (14-3, 9-2 OAC) led 46-28 at the intermission.

"Our kids were so emotional because we turned it over so much (in the last meeting) that I think it almost turned back in on us," Muskies' coach Dr. Jim Burson said.

Muskingum lost the earlier meeting with John Carroll by 19 after the Blue Streaks forced 29 Muskies' turnovers.

Despite trailing by almost the same margin again, Muskingum attempted a valiant comeback in the second half, twice cutting the 16th ranked Blue Streaks' lead to seven. But the Muskies only made 2-of-10 3-pointers in the second half.

Zach Ross led Muskingum (9-9, 5-6) with 23 points on 4-of-9 3-pointers. Cole Pittis added 13 points and 7 rebounds.

Muskingum returns to action Saturday at Baldwin-Wallace.
