WHIZ has learned Newark native Shane Montgomery is a finalist for the Auburn University offensive coordinator position.
Shane's father, Rusty, tells WHIZ Montgomery interviewed in Auburn Tuesday. Tigers coach Tommy Tuberville has reportedly interviewed five other candidates, including assistant coaches at Indiana, Georgia Tech, and Toledo.
Tuberville reportedly said more interviews may be coming this weekend, but also that a decision may be made in the next 24 to 48 hours.
Montgomery, a former Newark Catholic and North Carolina State quarterback, completed his third season as the Miami (OH) Redhawks' offensive coordinator. Miami finished second in the nation in total offense per game.
Montgomery was also a finalist for the Broyles award, annually given to the nation's top assistant coach.
