Maurice Clarett has left Ohio State, but skepticism and controversy did not stay behind.
Clarett announced Thursday that he will skip Friday's NFL combine workouts. The running back declared he needs six weeks before auditioning his skills to NFL scouts.
Clarett did attend the opening day of NFL combine workouts. He weighed in at 237 pounds. Some speculated the former Ohio State Buckeye wants the extra time to get in shape.
"I would like to go in the first round (of the NFL draft)," Clarett said at the combine. "As a kid you dream of going in the first round. But I can't control that."
Clarett said he needs the time alone because he missed his sophomore season at Ohio State. Buffalo GM Tom Donahoe said that excuse was a farce.
