ZHS head football coach John Lucas submitted a letter of resignation to superintendent Michael Pockl at around 11am on Thursday.

It marks the end of a long and extended association, barring a shift in capacity within the program, with Zanesville football for Lucas.

He not only starred at ZHS as a player, but also was an assistant for 17 seasons before taking over for Whit Parks. All in all, Lucas coached the Blue Devils for five seasons.

This past season, ZHS finished 2-8 after two straight 5-5 years. Athletic Director Dave Bell tells WHIZ that school officials will meet on Monday to determine how exactly to go about finding Lucas' replacement.
