Katie Castor tried pole vaulting because, as the John Glenn senior admits, she only runs when being chased.

"I don't really like to run," Castor said after finishing second in the D-II Districts at Meadowbrook High School. "I thought (pole vaulting) would be a lot better than the 400 meters or something. But actually, you have to run a lot to get moving."

Castor qualified for the D-II Regionals with a jump of 8'6". That was the same height she used to win the MVL championship last week.

Castor is the only girl from John Glenn to compete in pole vaulting. She is also only in her first year of competition in track and field.

"I got too old to compete in spring soccer," Castor quipped.

The Muskies senior tied the school record earlier this year with a jump of 9'0".
