The Crooksville Ceramics must make their second major coaching change within two months.
Boys head basketball coach Keith Arnold has been hired as the new coach at Meadowbrook, Colts' athletic director Kelly Rine tells WHIZ. Rine says the move became official at a Rolling Hills school board meeting Thursday morning.
There is some disparity over what happened to former Meadowbrook basketball coach Dan Weekley. Rine says Weekley verbally resigned over the weekend. Weekley says his contract was not renewed at a board meeting earlier this week.
"We felt it was time for a change," Rine said. "But this (move) has nothing to do with on-the-court performance."
Weekley and Arnold just completed their third seasons at their respective schools. Weekley's Colts went 9-12 (losing in the sectionals to Morgan 55-54) this season and Arnold's Ceramics went 7-15 (losing in the sectionals to Eastern 41-38).
Weekley says this is Meadowbrook's 11th coaching change in the last 16 years.
"We accomplished some things that Meadowbrook hadn't seen in a while," Weekley said. "We beat Cambridge for the first time in like 9 years; we had a winning record (11-10 in 2002-03) for the first time in 9 years; we sent a kid (Ryan Thompson to Ohio Valley) to play college basketball.
"I don't think that's ever happened there."
Weekley cited some differences with school administrators as the reason he was not renewed.
As for Crooksville, the school must replace Arnold, who has already told his players that he is leaving. Arnold was scheduled to meet with Meadowbrook players Friday afternoon.
The Ceramics hired Greg Williams last month to replace the retired Doug Clifford as football coach.
