The high school football season is almost two months away, but the first game of 2013 will be played this Friday night, with county bragging rights on the line. The annual Muskingum Valley-Licking County All Star game kicks off Friday, allowing graduated seniors one more chance to shine under the lights.
The Muskingum Valley squad wrapped up their final preparations Wednesday night at Sulsberger Stadium. Zanesville Head Coach Chad Grandstaff leads the Muskingum side that will try to win their fifth straight All Star game over Licking County. The team is comprised of 28 graduated players from the area that have come together to have fun and represent their county.
Muskingum has been known as the more physical team in recent years, able to pound both the running and passing games. This year's attack plans to be more run-oriented behind Tri-Valley's Austin Jones and Rosecrans' Luke Lloyd. Zanesville's Steele Gaumer will run the offense at quarterback. Although the players have only practiced for two weeks, they have bonded quickly and are confident heading into Friday's matchup. The game is set fo kick off at 8 p.m. at Sulsberger Stadium.
