JOHNSTOWN, PA - After sneaking into the AAABA quarterfinals with a 1-2 pool play record, the Zanesville Junior Pioneers proved they belong in the single elimination stages of the national tournament. The Juniors ousted Pool A winner New Orleans, 4-2, to punch a ticket to the semifinals, where they will battle Chicago Metro.

This marks Zanesville's second trip to the AAABA final four and first since 1973.

Tri-Valley principal Chad Shawger is adding local flavor to the OHSAA Board of Directors, beginning a two-year term at the board's first meeting of the 2016-17 school year on Thursday. He will serve as the Class AAA and East District representative.

Shawger's new position with the OHSAA is unpaid. The non-profit organization governs 822 high schools and 900 middle schools in Ohio, including approximately 400,000 student-athletes.

JOHNSTOWN, PA - The Zanesville Junior Pioneers ended AAABA pool play with a loss, but live to fight another day. Despite falling to New York City, 6-4, the Juniors advanced out of Pool D on a "runs given up" tiebreaker and will meet Pool A winner New Orleans in the quarterfinals.

The Junior Pioneers are now 1-1 in the All-American Amateur Baseball Association Tournament.

Zanesville defeated Livonia 4-2 on Tuesday in Johnstown, Pennsylvania. Chris Sparks went five innings to earn the win. Aj Kazmierczak and Caden Mumaw led the way offensively with one RBI a piece.

Zanesville will face New York City tomorrow. With a win, the Junior Pioneers will have a chance to make the single elimination tournament.

 CINCINNATI (AP) — Tyler Kroft hurt his left knee during practice on Tuesday, another blow to the Cincinnati Bengals' tight end position.

Kroft went down after hyperextending the knee and was taken off on a cart. He was scheduled for an exam to determine the severity.

The Bengals were counting on Kroft while starter Tyler Eifert recovers from surgery on his left ankle. Eifert is still wearing a protective boot and could miss the start of the season. Kroft played in 16...

August 1st was the first official day of practice for fall sports.

High school football teams opened up 2-a-days this morning and afternoon, but both practices were non-contact.  Football teams begin regular season play the week of August 22nd.

LEXINGTON, Ohio (AP) — Simon Pagenaud took advantage of Conor Daly's late fuel stop to win the Honda Indy 200 at the Mid-Ohio Sports Course on Sunday for his fourth victory of the season and the eighth of his career.

The Frenchman started from the pole, showing no signs of a back injury sustained in practice Friday. He beat Team Penske teammate Will Power by 4.16 seconds to increase his season points lead.

Sheridan three-sport standout Dylan Dupler will play baseball at the collegiate level.

The rising senior has verbally committed to pitch for Division I Marshall University on a partial athletic scholarship.

Dupler also received interest from Ohio, Cincinnati and Xavier, but says Marshall was the only school to pull the trigger on a scholarship offer.

LANCASTER - Coshocton Post 65 already made history by winning its first state legion game in 40 years, but the Cherokees were unable to ride that momentum versus Sidney on Friday, falling 5-2. 

Coshocton was eliminated from the tournament with the defeat, having lost its first game of the double-elimination tournament to Circleville late Thursday night, 6-5.

The Cherokees grabbed a 2-1 lead in the third inning and held on until Sidney tied things up in the top of the sixth....
