Newark Catholic and Ridgewood both advanced to the playoffs this season thanks to some great defense. It's only fitting that the Associated Press recognizes the two team's top defensive players with the top defensive honor.

In Division VI, Newark Catholic senior Zach McPhearson may have got a lot of credit for his offensive output as a star running back, but its his defense that made him the complete player. McPhearson is named the Co-Defensive Player of the Year in D-6.
