Not many people would want the chance to coach girl's basketball in the ECOL with the way River View has dominated .

However, Tommy Strasser has stepped up to the challenge.

A former Eastern District Coach of the Year, Strasser has been named the new head girl's coach at Meadowbrook. He replaces Greg Mitts, who left to take the head boy's job at Toronto High School.

Previously, Strasser spent five years guiding Buckeye Trail to a 53-54 record from 2001-2005. He...

Most high school players are focused solely on the upcoming season, Licking Valley's Storm Klein has plenty more to keep his mind churning.

Like what life would be like as a Buckeye.

After rushing for close to 3,000 yards as a freshman and sophomore, Klein has earned the chance to play in Columbus two years from now... if he wants it.

It was a big surprise when Geno Ford left Division I Kent State in 2005 to take over as head men's basketball coach at Muskingum.

Two years later the Muskies are in shock again, now that their hometown coach has left for a return to the Mid American Conference.

Muskingum College Athletic Director Larry Shank has confirmed to WHIZ that Ford submitted a letter of resignation Friday, June 22 to take an assistant men's basketball job at Kent State.

In the six years of the Southeastern Ohio Baseball Classic Head Coach Dan Murphy and his Post 29 ball club have yet to play for a title.

The chances of bringing home a trophy in their own tourney will have to wait another year. Post 27 from Plymouth, Indiana defeated Post 29 1-0 Sunday afternoon.

On Friday afternoon Zanesville Post 29 won ten-nothing. Then on Saturday Post 29 continued swinging the sticks beating Central Crossing 11-6 early in the afternoon. In the evening game Post 29 defeated the Zanesville Juniors 9-1.

Post 29's Josh Mohler has been on a tear going 5-9, with 8 RBI, and scoring 4 runs in the teams last three games.

New Lexington football has a rich tradition of winning on the gridiron.

Now the Panthers have the first class facility to match.

What started as a dream, turned into reality Friday when the field turf installation project at Jim Rockwell Stadium came to a conclusion. The addition of 140 tons of rubber pellett inlay wrapped up the near million dollar project with flying colors (orange and black of course).

With an exemption into the PGA Championship on the line, Zanesville's Mike Kaido is busy chasing the dream in Sunriver, Oregon.

Playing the PGA Professional National Championship, Kaido carded a round one score of 77 (5-over par), keeping him 10 strokes off the lead. He is tied for 209th overall out of 311 participants.

Chris Starkjohann leads the field at 5-under.

Kaido is the club pro at Longaberger Golf Course.

It takes a special type of person to win the Courage In Athletic Scholarship Award given annually by WHIZ and the Fieldhouse.

And that's why this year selction, Randy Wolff, was a no brainer.

An '07 graduate of Muskingum Christian Academy, Wolff carried a 4.0 GPA and served as a basketball team captain, all of that while battling other obstacles.

So far he's overcome autism and another rare disease, which causes muscle weakness and pain in his legs....
