In the AP's first statewide volleyball rankings, three area teams receive early recognition. Of them, defeding Division IV State Champion Newark Catholic is seventh in the first poll. The Green Wave is led by returning All-Ohio middle hitter Sara Clapper. In D-II, the ECOL's River View is also seventh at 7-0, while in D-III, Buckeye Trail, out of the PVC, is ninth.

In a battle of MVL unbeatens, the defending league champ Scotties sweep past the Generals on the road to improve to 5-0 in the MVL. Sheridan falls to 4-1. Kayci Miller's 16 points leads the Dawgs, while Richelle McMannis pounds nine kills to go along with four blocks for the losers.

A tough way to lose your home opener. Rosecrans is blanked at home by Strasburg, 36-0.

Quarterback Beau Moyer went 6 for 14 passing for 97 yards, but was intercepted twice.

The big story was the poor Rosecrans running game. The Bishops rushed the ball 22 times for -16 yards.

The Muskies were once again very impressive in their win over the Electrics.

Matt Heagan led the John Glenn attack with 19 carries for 133 yards and three touchdowns. He now has seven touchdowns on the year.

Aaron Bates was 4-9 passing for 72 yards and two scores. The Muskies amassed 352 yards rushing. They led 33-0 at halftime.

Muskingum College soccer had a pretty good opening week, and so did Zach Zealer.

Zealer was named the men's soccer Player of the Week for the Ohio Athletic Conference.

He helped the Muskies win their first two matches of the season. Zealer notched his third career hattrick in Saturday's win over Daeman College.
