For the second straight year the Licking County Athletics finish runner-up at the 16-18 Year Old Babe Ruth World Series.

This time around the outcome was a little more disappointing.

In Licking County, the Newark High School football team enters the new season with a refreshed attitude on football.

For the first time in 30 years the Wildcats can say they are seeking at the helm, head coach Scott Beery has Newark turned in the right direction.

The championship game of the 16-18 year old Babe Ruth World Series is set. The host team Licking County is set to square off with San Gabriel, California at 11 a.m. Friday morning.

The game was originally scheduled for 5 p.m., but was moved up for weather concerns.

Licking County enters the game 4-0 in the series, as the winner's bracket champion. San Gabriel would have to beat the Athletics twice in order to win the championship. If San Gabriel wins game one, the "if...

After two unspectacular 6-4 seasons New Lex broke through last year with an 8-2 campaign and a playoff spot.

The Panthers have a chance to be even better in '06 if star back Travis Cook and Jerry Robinson can improve on their breakout '05 seasons.

Where youth and experience usually spell disaster for a football team. Mix that in with an injury to your starting quarterback in the off season and you have all the makings of a forgettable football season.

Jason Lee’s tenure as head coach at Maysville has been rough in his first two seasons. His team’s 1-19 record during that time verifies that. However, his fortunes could be ready to change.

Back for the Panthers is an experienced Quarterback in Matt Vallee, while his back field should be equally talented with Chris Sims and Zanesville transfer Tydell Butcher carrying the ball.
