River View Volleyball played three matches at Saturday's quad-meet invitational. The Bears won two of three, suffering their first loss of the year.

Matches were best two out of three at the quad-meet.

Springfield-Shawnee defeated River View, 8-25, 25-23, 16-14. It was River View's second match of the day.

River View defeated Triway, 23-25, 25-24, 15-6. The Bears also beat Marietta, 25-12, 25-16.

The Bears are now 11-1 on the season.

The streaks are both over! John Glenn took a 10-0 lead into the second half, and held on to win the game, beating Sheridan for the first time since 1989.

Kicker Aaron Bates kicked a 48 yard field goal in the second quarter, a school record. Bates then missed two field goals inside 30 yards.

Bates redeemed himself, grabbing the game winning interception with 1:20 left in...

In Warsaw for an ECOL match-up state ranked River View makes quick work of Cambridge in three straight sets. The Black Bears are ranked seventh in Division II. Kristin Daughtery's 13 kills and seven blocks paces River View, while Darcey Bice adds 30 assists.

In New Concord, Wittenberg freshman Mike Conley scores a pair of goals lifting the Tigers to thier second win of the season against Ohio Athletic Cinference Schools. Muskingum junior Zack Zealer scored a goal in the 13th minute to tie the game 1-1. Philo grad Jared Cope had four saves. The Muskies hit the field again Saturday when they host Mt. St. Joseph at 11 a.m.

In Philo, the match goes the distance, but in the end, Maysville goes one up on Philo in the win column. Shannon Tilley leads the Panther attack with 12 assists and six kills, while Renee Fox leads all hitters. The Philo senior hammers 29 kills, while Hallie Nesselroad tosses up 35 assists.

At Whirlwind Stadium, the Tornadoes stay perfect with a shutout win over previouslu undefeated John Glenn, 2-0. Tanner Clark scores the first goal of the game in the first half, off an assist from John Moore. And in the second half Morre gets one of his own with 17:30 to play in the game. John Robinson is credited with the assist.

The Associated Press released its first statewide high school football polls this week and a handful of area teams have been noticed. Mostly in Division III, where Licking Valley's quick and impressive 3-0 start has the Panthers ranked 5th, also receiving two first place votes.

Meanwhile, Cambridge is 3-0 and coming off an impressive 30-0 road victory over Parkersburg South. The Bobcats are 17th, while defending MVL Champ Sheridan is 25th at 2-1.

In the AP's first statewide volleyball rankings, three area teams receive early recognition. Of them, defeding Division IV State Champion Newark Catholic is seventh in the first poll. The Green Wave is led by returning All-Ohio middle hitter Sara Clapper. In D-II, the ECOL's River View is also seventh at 7-0, while in D-III, Buckeye Trail, out of the PVC, is ninth.

In a battle of MVL unbeatens, the defending league champ Scotties sweep past the Generals on the road to improve to 5-0 in the MVL. Sheridan falls to 4-1. Kayci Miller's 16 points leads the Dawgs, while Richelle McMannis pounds nine kills to go along with four blocks for the losers.
