Athens, Greens was the home to the Olympics.

Athens, Ohio is the home to maybe a future Olympian.

Elena Sowers is the top-ranked girl in USA Table Tennis in her under-14 age group. She finished 2nd in the Buckeye Open in Columbus this past weekend.

Rosecrans senior Scott Moyer will play football and basketball at Case Western Reserve University, a D-III school near Cleveland.

Moyer, a quarterback and point guard for the Bishops, will play either QB or WR for the Spartans (5-5 in 2004).

"I'd like to switch to shooting guard in college," an excited Moyer said.

Moyer is second in Rosecrans' history for career passing yards and career 3-pointers made. He holds the school's single-season free throw percentage...

Ohio State defensive end Simon Fraser signed a free agent contract with the Cleveland Browns on Monday, the day after the 2005 NFL draft concluded.

Many anticipated the 6'6", 280 lbs. Upper Arlington native to be drafted. Fraser's agent said the two-year Buckeyes' starter received interested from eight teams but decided to sign with Cleveland after talking to Browns' head coach Romeo Crennel.

The Ohio Athletic Conference named Muskies' pitcher Erica Hoyt and designated player Nicole Blubaugh its pitcher and hitter of the week, respectively.

Hoyt won two games last week - she leads the country with 23 wins - and gave up no runs in 8.2 IP.

Blubaugh went 5-8 (.484 BA this year) and hit her team-leading and career-high 9th homerun of the season. The New Lex grad and All-America knocked in five, tying her season-high mark with 44 RBI.

Jim Paxson gave a precise reason why he, in conjunction with new Cavs' owner Dan Gilbert, fired Paul Silas one month before the season ended.

"We felt that if we didn't make this decision that we were jeopardizing our ability to be a playoff team this year," Paxson said.

Well, Cleveland ended up not making the playoffs so Paxson lost his job too.

Gilbert fired Paxson Thursday after the Cavs finished tied with New Jersey (42-40) for the Eastern Conference's final...

Michael Walser was a key cog on Sheridan's MVL title team that made a run through the postseason this past year, whether it be on offense running the ball, on defense hitting people, or on special teams.

He'll focus on special teams at the next level.

Walser takes his kicking skills to Robert Morris University. The senior signed with the college on Tuesday morning. He will receive a partial academic scholarship to the Div. I-AA school.

Ohio State moved quickly to replace departed defensive coordinator Mark Snyder.

Snyder had been introduced as Marshall's new head football coach earlier in the day. Taking over the defensive duties, will be both linebackers coach Luke Fickell and defensive line coach Jim Heacock.

Maybe there was a reason Steve Shurina didn't want Zanesville-native Kevin Martin to leave early for the NBA.

Shurina's Western Carolina basketball team went from 13-15 with K-Mart... to 8-22 without him. He gets reassigned to a teaching position for the remainder of his contract.

The move was made after the athletic department evaluated the basketball program's direction. Shurina finishes 48-97 in 5 years leading the Catamounts.

Morgan fans have known about Sarah Van Horn's athletic prowess for years. Trouble is, not too many people outside of Muskingum County have made the trip to McConnelsville.

Leave it up to an opposing coach to elevate the basketball star to the next level.

Van Horn impressed West Holmes coaches so much when Morgan lost in the tournament to the Lady Knights this year... that the head coach for West Holmes recommended West Virginia Wesleyan coaches to check her out.
