In thier respective districts, some area high school golf standouts advance to the State Tournament.

In Division II at Cumberland Trails, two-time MVL Champion, West Muskingum senior Derek Brown earns medalist honors, carding a four-under 68. The next closest score was an even par, 72. Only two individual golfers advance to state from each district.

Zanesville (1-5) scored late in the fourth and had the ball, but couldn't get into scoring position to win the game.

Former Sheridan basketball standout Jessie Slack, was set to make an impact for Division I Eastern Carolina this season. That plan has been slightly delayed.

A freshman guard for the Pirates, Slack underwent surgery Wednesday to repair a broken right cheekbone. Slack's father, Greg, tells WHIZ that Jessie broke her cheekbone in three different places during a late afternoon open gym Saturday, Sept. 24th.
