Former Ohio State guard Nick Dials will transfer to play basketball at the University of Akron, Zips' coach Keith Dambrot said Tuesday.

Dials announced at the end of the 2003-04 season that he would leave the Buckeyes because they would not promise the former walk-on a scholarship for more than one year.

Turns out former Blue Devils’ football coach John Lucas doesn’t need to leave Zanesville for a new job.

New Maysville head coach Jason Lee tells WHIZ that Lucas accepted the Panthers' defensive coordinator position on Monday.

The move is pending board approval on July 15.

"When I got this job, (Lucas) was the first person I contacted," said Lee.

Kevin Martin's reputation continues to rise... at least on online mock NBA drafts.

2 mock drafts, Draftcity.com and InsideHoops.com, have the ZHS grad moving up in the draft order. Draftcity has Martin now going to Denver with the 20th pick, while InsideHoops has the two-guard headed to Indiana at 29th overall.

Martin's father tells WHIZ that his son will work out for the Pacers on Wednesday, a day after working out for the L.A. Lakers.

A Zanesville native is headed to the NBA - now for good.

Kevin Martin, the 6-7 guard from Western Carolina, will remain in the NBA Draft.

The NBA deadline for underclassmen to either stay in the draft or return to college was 5 p.m. Thursday.

Phone records from a cell phone issued to the Ohio State men's basketball office dispute the earlier statements from a former OSU assistant coach.

The records show at least four phone calls were made to the home of Kathleen Salyers, whose lawsuit against an OSU booster led to the firing of Buckeyes' head coach Jim O'Brien.

Kevin Martin's workouts appear to be working.

Two websites, draftcity.com and nbadraft.net, moved the Zanesville native up in their respective 2004 NBA draft projections.

Draftcity.com predicts that Martin, a 6-7 guard from Western Carolina, will be drafted 23rd overall by the Portland Trailblazers. Martin's dad, Kevin Sr., says Martin scheduled a work out for the Blazers on Wednesday.

Turns out former Meadowbrook head football coach Steve Warden will see a prison warden after all.

Guernsey county assistant prosecutor Dan Padden tells WHIZ that judge David Ellwood revoked Warden's probation on Wednesday from his sexual battery conviction last November.

Padden says an anonymous tip claimed that phone contact was made between Warden and the victim from the case. Warden was forbidden to make any contact with the victim.

Suspended Cincinnati men's basketball coach Bob Huggins pleaded no contest Tuesday to a drunken driving charge.

Huggins appeared in Fairfax - a suburb of Cincinnati - mayor's court and was ordered to pay a $350 fine plus court costs and attend a three-day alcohol education program.

Magistrate John Holschuh Jr. suspended a six-month jail sentence and $650 of a $1,000 fine as long as Huggins fulfills the rest of the requirements.

Kathleen Salyers said she never intended to get OSU men's basketball coach Jim O'Brien fired.

She also did not expect to receive threats.

Salyers' lawyer, Jeffrey Lucas, says his client has received threatening phone calls and had her tires slashed recently.

Salyers filed a lawsuit against an OSU booster, which ultimately started a chain reaction that got O'Brien fired.

WHIZ has learned Zanesville-native Kevin Martin has a busy schedule leading to Thursday's deadline to pull out of the NBA draft.

Martin's father, Kevin Martin, Sr., told WHIZ that his son flew to Sacramento on Monday. He'll work out in front of Kings officials on Tuesday. NBA.com's bio of Martin lists the Kings as his favorite childhood team.

After Sacramento, Martin'll work out for Portland, and then... is debating whether his next workout will be with the Sonics or the...
