A handful of area track standouts have punched their ticket to the state track meet, while others are one step closer.

Thursday at Meadowbrook High School it was day one at the Division II Regional track meet. The running events held their heat races, while some of the field events were completed. The finals of the races will be held Saturday.

Listed below are the results from the area athletes to either qualifiy for the state meet or qualify for the finals Saturday....

In Ann Arbor, Michigan Shenandoah grad Jed Stephen's RBI single in the bottom of the 12th inning keeps Ohio State alive in the winners bracket of the Big Ten baseball tournament.

Already tabbed All-Central Region and OAC Player of the Year, Kari Hoying was named First Team NFCA All-American Thursday.

The Sophomore catcher paces Muskingum with a .484 batting average and 12 home runs. Not to mention she is close to breaking two Ohio Athletic Conference records. Her 76 hits and 64 RBI are both just 1 shy of the single-season OAC marks.

The final MVL softball team exits the tournament. Dover ace Melissa Bott strikes out 16 and drives in two runs at the plate, as the state-ranked Tornadoes advance to the Regional tournament.
