GOETZIS, Austria (AP) — Olympic and world decathlon champion Ashton Eaton has pulled out of the Hypo Meeting citing lower back problems.

Shortly before the start of the event Saturday, Eaton appeared on the field casually dressed and informed spectators he injured himself during shot put practice this week.

It would have been the American world record-holder's first appearance at the IAAF World Combined Events Challenge event in the Austrian Alps....

ZURICH (AP) — FIFA President Sepp Blatter has criticized U.S. Attorney General Loretta Lynch and an American federal investigation into soccer corruption.

Blatter tells Swiss broadcaster RTS "there is something that smells" about the timing of dawn raids to arrest soccer officials in Zurich two days before his re-election Friday.

The defiant FIFA chief says Lynch's comments on the bribery and racketeering case "shocked" him.

ZURICH (AP) — Sepp Blatter says he will not forget attempts by European soccer leaders to stop him being re-elected as FIFA president and warned that UEFA cannot live without soccer's global governing body.

UEFA President Michel Platini, who helped Blatter gain the FIFA presidency in 1998, led opposition against his former ally.

Platini championed Prince Ali bin al-Hussein's candidacy but the Jordanian was beaten by Blatter in Friday's election....

LOS ANGELES (AP) — James Kaprielian threw seven strong innings, and Kevin Kramer had three hits and scored twice to lead No. 1 overall seed UCLA to a 7-2 victory over CSU Bakersfield in the Los Angeles Regional on Friday night.

Luke Persico and Christoph Bono had two hits and two RBIs apiece to help UCLA (43-14) into a winner's bracket game against Maryland (40-21) on Saturday. CSU Bakersfield (36-23-1) will take on Mississippi in an elimination game.

FULLERTON, Calif. (AP) — Cal State Fullerton scored six runs in the third inning and cruised to a 9-3 victory over Pepperdine on Friday night in the opening round of the Fullerton Regional.

Trailing 2-1, Fullerton sent 12 batters to the plate in the third and scored six runs on just one hit. Three Pepperdine pitchers combined to walk five and hit three batters, and the Waves committed two errors.
