MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) — Top-seeded Kei Nishikori opened his bid for a fourth straight Memphis Open title with a 6-2, 7-5 victory over American Ryan Harrison on Wednesday night.

Nishikori was cruising through the second set up a break at 5-3. Harrison held serve, then broke the Japanese player in the lengthy 10th game. The American saved four match points before Nishikori hit a backhand into the net, giving Harrison his break and tying the set at 5-all.

AUBURN HILLS, Mich. (AP) — Detroit's Reggie Jackson and Ersan Ilyasova are sitting out Wednesday night against Denver, leaving the Pistons without three starters in their final game before the All-Star break.

The team said before the game that Jackson and Ilyasova had both been ill. The Pistons are also without Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, who has been recovering from a core muscle strain.

LOGAN, Utah (AP) — Julius Brown has joined Utah State's staff as cornerbacks coach.

Aggies coach Matt Wells announced the move Wednesday.

The former Boise State cornerback spent the past two seasons at his alma mater as secondary coach and recruiting coordinator. He also has coached at Troy and Arkansas State.

CHICAGO (AP) — Derrick Rose is in the Chicago Bulls' lineup Wednesday against the Atlanta Hawks after missing a game because of soreness.

ATLANTA (AP) — The Atlanta Braves say they still do not know if the Hank Aaron statue will be moved from its current home at Turner Field to the team's new SunTrust Park, which will open in 2017.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Commissioner Scott Butera says the Arena Football League is in "serious negotiations" with Ted Leonsis' Monumental Sports & Entertainment about bringing a team to Washington.
