MIAMI (AP) — It would be misleading to say the Miami Heat didn't care about the regular season.

Then again, it was clear from the outset that the Heat goals for this season focused on the playoffs, which cannot come as any surprise.

They're bidding for a third straight championship, something only three franchises have done.

They're looking for a fourth straight trip to the NBA Finals, something only the Celtics and Lakers have...

WASHINGTON (AP) — St. Louis Cardinals right-hander Joe Kelly has been put on the 15-day disabled list with a strained left hamstring.

The Cardinals also optioned righty reliever Keith Butler to Triple-A Memphis and recalled rookie right-handers Eric Fornataro and Jorge Rondon from Memphis before Thursday's game at the Washington Nationals. Neither Fornataro nor Rondon has ever appeared in a major league game.

Kelly got hurt while trying to beat out a...

ATLANTA (AP) — There's no bigger long shot in the NBA playoffs than the Atlanta Hawks.

Only the 15th team in the last two decades to make the postseason with a losing record, the Hawks (38-44) get started Saturday against the top seed in the East, the Indiana Pacers.

Good luck with that.

Then again, considering all the Hawks have been through, just making the playoffs for the seventh year in a row was quite a feat. The team has...

TAMPA, Fla. (AP) — Carey Price concedes that failing to protect a pair of third-period leads is not a formula for success in the NHL playoffs.

The Montreal Canadiens won the opening game of their series against Tampa Bay without a stellar performance from one of the league's top goaltenders, and they know they will have to be much better defensively the rest of the way against the Lightning.

Price shared the NHL's third-best save percentage during...

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — The rehabilitation assignment for Toronto Blue Jays closer Casey Janssen has been halted because of lingering tightness in his lower back.

Janssen has been on the disabled list since the start of the season. He pitched for Class A Dunedin Tuesday, but according to manager John Gibbons he didn't feel better afterward and was told to take a few days off from throwing.

To get another shot at LeBron James, the San Antonio Spurs may have to go through Dirk Nowitzki, then Dwight Howard and James Harden, and finally Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook.

Survive all that, and maybe they can avenge that NBA Finals heartbreak.

"There's definitely that burning desire in the back of your mind that really wants to get back there," Spurs guard Patty Mills said.

They get started on Sunday, right before James...

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — Kevin Kouzmanoff delivered again, doubling twice and scoring two runs as the Texas Rangers beat Seattle Mariners 8-6 Thursday.

Texas lost the opener of the four-game series on Monday night, but won the last three.

The 32-year-old Kouzmanoff is hitting .414 since being promoted from Triple-A on April 9 after starting third baseman Adrian Beltre strained his left quadriceps.

Kouzmanoff has hit in all eight...

NEW YORK (AP) — Seattle Mariners first baseman Ji-Man Choi has been suspended for 50 games following a positive test for a performance-enhancing substance.

The urine sample was collected from Choi before March 28, when Major League Baseball and the players' union increased the penalty for a first testing violation for PEDs to 80 games. MLB said Thursday that Choi tested positive for methandienone, a controlled substance popular with bodybuilders.
