NEW YORK (AP) — Kyle Hendricks outpitched Jonathon Niese in a matchup of feeble offenses, and Matt Szczur provided the one big hit Tuesday night as the Chicago Cubs snapped a five-game skid with a 1-0 victory over the New York Mets.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Grant Sturgeon shot a 1-under 69 on Tuesday for a share of the third-round lead with Ben Polland in the PGA Professional National Championship.

Sturgeon, a PGA assistant pro at Winged Foot in Mamaroneck, New York, had four birdies and three bogeys on Philadelphia Cricket Club's Wissahickon Course to match Polland at 4-under 208.

UNCASVILLE, Conn. (AP) — Tamika Catchings had 26 points and 10 rebounds, including the 3,000th of her career, to help the Indiana Fever held off Connecticut 92-84 on Tuesday night to snap the Sun's seven-game winning streak.

Indiana led by as many as 23 points in the third quarter but the Sun stormed back, pulling within 85-82 on Alex Bentley's 3-pointer with 1:05 remaining. But the Fever (4-6) made 7 of 8 free throws down the stretch to seal it.

LAWRENCE, Kan. (AP) — Kansas has added North Carolina transfer guard Jessica Washington.

MONTREAL (AP) — Carli Lloyd buried a penalty kick, Hope Solo got another shutout and the United States beat top-ranked Germany 2-0 on Tuesday night to advance to the title match at the Women's World Cup.

Lloyd's penalty kick in the 69th minute went into the right side of the goal less than 10 minutes after Celia Sasic shot wide on a penalty kick for Germany.
