HOUSTON (AP) — The Houston Texans have released defensive lineman Brandon Ivory a day after he was charged in a residential burglary in Tuscaloosa.

ST. LOUIS (AP) — The St. Louis Cardinals placed outfielder Jon Jay on the 15-day disabled list with a left wrist stress reaction and bone bruise, making room on the roster for call-up Tim Cooney to start against the San Diego Padres.

SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) — The San Jose Sharks have signed forwards John McCarthy, Bryan Lerg and Micheal Haley to one-year contracts.

Coach Kevin Willard announced the transfer of forward Brawden Anderson, shooting guard Derrick Gordon and point guard Jevin Thomas on Thursday.

DETROIT (AP) — Francisco Liriano pitched seven shutout innings in a rare victory over the Detroit Tigers as the Pittsburgh Pirates finished a three-game sweep with an 8-4 win on Thursday afternoon.

SAN DIEGO (AP) — San Diego Chargers tight end Antonio Gates was suspended without pay Thursday for the first four games of the 2015 season for violating the NFL's policy on performance-enhancing substances.
