HARRISON, N.J. (AP) — The New York Red Bulls hired former player Ibrahim Sekagya for the team's technical staff just days after his retirement from soccer.

The team announced the hiring Monday, but did not specify Sekagya's duties. He will be helping both the coaching staff and the team's young players "at all levels," the Red Bulls said.

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP) — Defending champion Venus Williams beat an opponent half her age on Monday, winning 6-1, 6-2 against 17-year-old Belinda Bencic of Switzerland in the first round of the Dubai Tennis Championships.

TAMPA, Fla. (AP) — New York Yankees pitcher Masahiro Tanaka is set to start workouts ahead of spring training.

Yankees pitching coach Larry Rothschild said Tanaka was scheduled to arrive in Florida on Monday night from Japan. Tanaka missed 2½ months last year while rehabilitating a partially torn ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow. He returned for two late-September starts.

NEW YORK (AP) — The NHL has suspended Florida Panthers defenseman Dmitry Kulikov four games for clipping Dallas Stars forward Tyler Seguin.

The dangerous hit occurred in the third period of the Stars' 2-0 win over Florida on Friday. Kulikov went low and hit Seguin on his right knee moments after the Dallas forward entered his offensive zone and made a pass.

Kulikov was given a major penalty for clipping and a game misconduct.

NEW YORK (AP) — America's top dog show has started, with Swagger the old English sheepdog getting off to a good start at the Westminster Kennel Club.

LAS VEGAS (AP) — The lights of the Las Vegas Strip are expected to dim this week for deceased University of Nevada, Las Vegas basketball coach Jerry Tarkanian.

Several Strip casinos have agreed to dim their bulbs at 10:30 p.m. Wednesday for a few minutes for the Hall of Fame coach following a UNLV basketball home game.
